Disease or Illness
- Stumbling, collapse, dragging or not using legs
- Sudden, severe changes in behavior (friendly pet acting aggressive, hiding all day, etc.)
- Not able to urinate
- Vomiting and diarrhea for more than 24hrs duration, especially if containing blood
- Distended or bloated abdomen
- Sudden, severe lethargy or loss of appetite
- Severe allergic reactions such as facial swelling
- Pregnant animal struggling to give birth (greater than 2 hours in between deliveries)
Trauma
- Traumatic injury (hit by car, hit by blunt object, falls)
- Severe wounds (bite wounds, puncture wounds, anything that bleeds heavily)
- Heatstroke
- Nose bleeding
Ingestion
- Foods such as chocolate, grapes/raisins, or any gum or candy containing xylitol (“sugar-free” substitute)
- Medications, both prescription or over-the-counter
- Plants such as lilies, wild mushrooms, or marijuana
- Household chemicals such as antifreeze, mouse or rat poison, ice melt
- Non-digestible objects (toys, clothing, string, sharp objects, etc.)
